The film is about Erik, a weather-beaten coalminer who, after the sudden loss of his pregnant wife Freja, finds himself very lonely, angry and in a current state of sadness and despair. 
With the lack of answers from the church, the question arises;
Could it be that God has abandoned him?
And.. could it be that the Devil himself has plans for him?

In this sickeningly but exciting costume drama, Erik encounters the forest rue. A seductive, beautiful and cunning creature with ulterior motives.

The aim is to create a film that is artistically appealing while at the same time highlighting Sweden's traditions, culture and folk beliefs. It's based on the original myths and stories that exist about the "skogsrå".
Extensive research has been done on the subject and we have been lucky to have Tommy Kuusela onboard who is a professor and research archivist at Uppsala University in the history of religion. With him we also have Lars Wahlström who is the host of the podcast "När man talar om trollen", where Tommy participates.
